The Profane Gregorian Museum
Founded by Gregorio XVI in 1844 it houses findings dating back to the Greek and Roman Age, coming mostly from excavations and findings made in the ancient Pontifical State.
Very important are The Palestrita’s Stele, sepulchral actic relief of the halfth of the 5th century B.C
and some fragments of sculptures of the Parthenon such as Athena’s Head, very similar to the works of Magna Grecia.
There you can find many Roman copies and new elaborations of the Greek original works
such as the Sepulchre from Vicovaro and the Niobide Chiaromonti, probably derived from the group of the dying Niobidi due to Skopas or Prassitele.
